The Aerodrome Committee meeting held at the Tiruchi International Airport on Friday laid special emphasis on strengthening coordination among all stakeholder agencies to ensure seamless airport operations and security preparedness. 

    The meeting held at the Aerodrome Committee Control Room at the airport was chaired by Commissioner of Police N. Kamini. It was convened by Airport Director G. Gopalakrishnan and attended by representatives from the district administration, the police, the Central Industrial Security Force, armed forces, intelligence agencies, airlines, and various airport stakeholders. 

    The committee discussed advance preparedness, rapid response mechanism, effective communication channels, and coordinated action to counter any unlawful interference with civil aviation.  Various hijack scenarios figured at the meeting where the Centre’s policy on handling hijacked aircraft was reiterated.  The roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including the Aerodrome Committee, Air Traffic Control, Central Industrial Security Force, airlines, defence authorities, and emergency services were reviewed in detail.

    The Tiruchi international airport continues to be one of the designated airports identified for handling such emergencies. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment of all participating agencies towards maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and security at the Tiruchi international airport, a release from the airport authorities said.
