The Tirupati police got 66 new electric bikes, which would ensure better surveillance and help achieve the ‘visible policing’ target, Tirupati district Collector S. Venkateswar said.
He flagged off the fleet of 66 VIDA electric bikes on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), accompanied by Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu. The bikes were presented by Hero Motors under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The vehicles were formally handed over by the company to the department at an event in Sri City on July 1, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr. Venkateswar called it an ‘eco-friendly policing measure’, appreciating the company’s gesture and the department’s plan to ‘go green’.

Policewomen received helmets, first-aid kits and white T-shirts on the occasion. Mr. Subbarayudu said awareness programmes on women’s safety were being conducted regularly in schools and colleges.
Fifty-three of the vehicles will be deployed in each of the 53 police stations in the district, and the remaining 13 will be used exclusively by the ‘Shakti Teams’ comprising policewomen engaged in duty relating to women’s safety.
