In keeping with the State government’s directive to eradicate drugs and banned tobacco products, the Tiruppur district administration has stepped up its drive against the menace.

    During June, 58.970 kg ganja (cannabis) and 1,893 narcotic tablets were seized, and 105 offenders were arrested. A total of 833.260 kg banned tobacco products were confiscated, and 117 persons were arrested for possession and sale. Further, 89 shops were sealed, and orders have been issued imposing a total fine of ₹7,75,000, District Collector Manish Narnaware said in a press release.

    Stringent action will be taken under the appropriate legal provisions against individuals involved in the transportation, sale, and consumption of narcotic substances. The primary objective is to safeguard the future and security of children, youth, and women. Shops selling banned tobacco products will be sealed for 15 days and fined ₹25,000, the Collector said.
