A rising AEW star has called Mercedes Mone her idol just weeks after being betrayed by her on LIVE TV.

The star in the limelight is Maya World. At Forbidden Door 2026, the 23-year-old was just inches away from winning the Women's Owen Hart Cup Tournament. She was defeated by Mercedes Mone in a highly entertaining contest. Interestingly, the CEO "betrayed" Maya after Maya's win over Mone's ally, Athena, in the tournament's semifinals, as Mone and the Fallen Goddess attacked World following Maya's victory. Despite this, Maya World, in a recent interview, called Mercedes Mone her "idol".

Speaking on Highsports' Sign It Live, World said she will chase the feeling of being in the ring with Mercedes Mone, calling the former TBS champion her idol and their match an amazing time.

Dave Meltzer recently spoke about the Women's Owen Hart Cup Final between Mercedes Mone and Maya World at Forbidden Door 2026. The legendary wrestling analyst who had seen the match LIVE refrained from star-rating it because he apparently needed to watch it on TV first.

On the previous Collision episode, Maya Worley qualified for the Women's Casino Gauntlet match, set for tonight on Dynamite: Beach Break. Should she win, the star will get a shot at the AEW Women's Title at Redemption 2026. Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone has an opportunity at the very title at AEW All In: London 2026.
