A veteran wrestling personality shared a huge compliment for a top AEW name, comparing him to WWE's Roman Reigns. The star in question, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, suffered a massive setback this week on Wednesday Night Dynamite.
After he retained his AEW Men's World Championship against Mark Briscoe last week, Big Hebrew's post-match ambush on The Chicken was thwarted by Kenny Omega, who called him out to one more title match against him. Friedman agreed to face The Cleaner the following week, but only if the latter agreed to never challenge for the belt again in the case of him losing to Max for a third time. Thankfully, on Dynamite: Beach Break this Wednesday, Omega was able to avoid Hangman Page's fate as he successfully dethroned The Wolf of Wrestling.
Notably, another big title change took place earlier this week on Monday Night RAW, where the returning CM Punk ended Sami Zayn's reign as Undisputed WWE Champion at just nine days. While fans have been discussing and paralleling the two matches, Jonathan Coachman recently took to X/Twitter to argue that both bouts served very different purposes despite their similar outcomes.
The Coach suggested that while WWE's choice to have Punk unseat Zayn undermined the latter's title win at Night of Champions 2026, AEW likely booked Omega to dethrone MJF so that the latter could heal his injured knee enroute to All In: London. Coachman also likened Friedman to Roman Reigns as a top star, claiming that only financial disagreements could force the self-proclaimed "generational talent" to part ways with All Elite Wrestling.
After recapturing the AEW World Championship from MJF on Dynamite: Beach Break, Kenny Omega addressed the audiences in Clearwater, Florida, thanking them for their support over the years. The God of Professional Wrestling also gave The Devil his due credit, praising Friedman as a flagbearer for the company and promising to be a World Champion that The Salt of The Earth could be envious of.
It remains to be seen what lies next for MJF on All Elite Wrestling programming heading into All In 2026.
