The Sernthamaram police have picked up three juveniles for allegedly murdering a labourer and dumping the headless body in an abandoned well.

Police said M. Mahendran, 30, a labourer of Valasai in Sernthamaram police station limits, left home on July 6 and did not return that night. When his wife Bhuvaneshwari went to the Sernthamaram police station for registering complaint, she received a call from a man posing as Mahendran’s friend who told her that Mahndran and his friends were in Udhagamandalam and hence she need not worry about him.

When Mahendran did not return home or answer the phone subsequently, Ms. Bhuvaneshwari filed a complaint with the Sernthamaram police on July 14. The police found Mahendran’s two-wheeler abandoned near Kasidharmam tank in Mela Kadayanallur.

Subsequently, the police picked up three juveniles, who reportedly confessed that they had murdered Mahendran and dumped the body in an abandoned well. With the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel, the police recovered the torso from the well on Tuesday and a search is on to trace the severed head.
