The Transport Department has advised the public to exercise caution while buying de-registered vehicles, especially from Delhi. The appeal follows a spurt in the number of incidents in which such vehicles were clandestinely sold with the help of fake documents.

Motor Vehicles Inspector Srinivasa Rao seized a vehicle on Friday (July 17, 2026) and transferred it to the Mangalam depot.

“Diesel vehicles aged ten years and petrol vehicles aged 15 years in Delhi are required to be de-registered based on an order from the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT). Such vehicles are not meant to be registered anywhere again and possessing such vehicles is a crime,” said Korrapati Muralimohan, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Tirupati.

Used car buyers are advised to visit the local RTO offices or browse the VAHAN portal (PARIVAHAN.GOV.IN) to check the antecedents of such vehicles.
