Tiruchi Corporation commenced trial water supply on Tuesday from a newly constructed overhead water tank at Nakshatra Nagar in Ward 55 under the 24-hour drinking water supply scheme.
The overhead tank, with a storage capacity of five lakh litres, has been built to strengthen drinking water distribution in the locality. As part of the trial run, water was supplied to residents of Vasantha Nagar, covering first to ninth streets.
Mayor M. Anbazhagan said the project was taken up on a priority basis after the Ward 55 councillor raised concerns over irregular drinking water supply during a recent meeting of the Corporation Council. Acting on the complaints, the Corporation expedited the necessary works, enabling the commencement of trial water supply on Tuesday.
The project, being implemented at a cost of ₹38.49 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme, covers Ward Nos. 51 to 56, including areas such as Cantonment, Railway Junction, Ponnagar, Jaya Nagar, Viswas Nagar, Karumandapam, and IOB Colony.
