Mahesh Sharma, a correspondent with The Tribune posted at Mandi Ahmedgarh, passed away this morning after battling cancer. He was 71 and had been admitted to Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital in Ludhiana.

He is survived by his son Venu Gopal and daughter Jasmine, who lives in Australia.

Sharma was diagnosed with cancer only a few weeks ago after experiencing persistent stomach pain and related issues. Despite his illness, he continued working with The Tribune, where he had served since 2001. He covered Mandi Ahmedgarh, Jagraon, Raikot and Malerkotla areas, reporting across major beats.

His last rites will be performed at Mandi Ahmedgarh once his daughter arrives from Australia.
