The police under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government registered 2,892 cases and arrested 3,845 persons from May 10, 2026 to July 20, 2026 in its fight against drugs, said Minister for Prohibition and Excise K. Vignesh in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
The police seized 3,579 kg of ganja, over 1 lakh prescription tablets and 27 kg of other drugs such as heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, LSD and cannabis-infused toffees.
Mr. Vignesh said the government, without making any compromise, is in the efforts to create a drug-free Tamil Nadu.
The goal of the Chief Minister is to save students and future generations from drug addiction and to create a healthy next generation, the Minister told journalists after chairing a review meeting of drug-free Coimbatore initiative.
Responding to the allegation that collection of ₹10 above the MRP per bottle is still being continued at Tasmac outlets, Mr. Vignesh said the practice has now decreased in many places, and reports are coming in that they are currently taking ₹5 or ₹3.
He said that the government is working towards eliminating the practice. He added that another action is going to be taken by the government on this issue after July 27.
