The cybercrime police in Coimbatore on Monday arrested two persons, who posed as police officers and duped a city resident of ₹38,000.
C. Binny (51) of Pachapalayam and Kishore Kumar (21) of Saravanampatti were arrested for cheating a 26-year-old trader hailing from a north Indian State, who runs a shop in the city.
According to the police, the accused contacted the complainant, posing as officers from the office of the Superintendent of Police. They threatened him that a case would be registered against him for watching and sharing pornographic content.
The duo demanded money from the trader to spare him and received ₹ 38,000 through an online transaction. The trader approached the police after finding out that he was defrauded.
