A pall of gloom descended over Maujgarh village in the Abohar subdivision after young cousins drowned in a village water reservoir. Their bodies were recovered in the wee hours of Sunday and sent to the government hospital for post-mortem examination.

According to the information, six-year-old Sidhant and his eight-year-old cousin, Lovepreet, had gone out to play around 11 am on Saturday but did not return home. Family members and villagers launched a search in the village and nearby areas.

After hours of searching, the bodies of both children were found in the village water reservoir during the wee hours of Sunday. Sources said Sidhant was the only brother among five sisters, while Lovepreet was the daughter of his paternal uncle. The fathers of both deceased children are engaged in agriculture.
