Two persons, including a 5-year-old girl child, died on the spot in a road accident when an auto and a government bus collided at Idaikaatur near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district on Saturday.

Five others were injured in the accident were admitted in Government Hospital and later shifted to Madurai.

Police said that Ashok (27), an auto driver in Madurai lived in Madhichiyam. He left for a temple visit in his auto accompanied by his family members to the Ayyanar Temple in Idaikaatur.

As the auto approached Pudur near Thirupuvanam, a speeding bus from Ramanathapuram was heading to Madurai collided with the auto.

In the impact, Rivanthika (5) daughter of Ashok and Krishnaveni (65), his grandmother died on the spot.

Police further said that Ashok, Dhanapriya (20) Meena (18), Ambika (13), Venkateswari (15) suffered multiple injuries. They were rushed to Thirupuvanam GH and later shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital. Further investigation is on.
