Two persons were killed and four others suffered multiple injuries, when a tyre burst in the car in which they were travelling near Thirumangalam in Madurai district on Saturday.

The injured were admitted to a private hospital and at Government Rajaji Hospital.

Police said that Bharatiraja, 34, a native of Srivilliputtur in Virudhunagar district, lived in Thirumangalam. He was working in the Tangedco, Madurai. Along with him, six others, including Anand Padmanabhan, Raju, Mahaprabhu, Babu Raman, Ajit Kumar and Saran (friend of Raju), were in the car.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that they had all gone to a friend’s house in Melakottai Samathuvapuram and were returning to Thirumangalam at around 3.30 a.m. As the vehicle was on the Virudhunagar-Thirumangalam highway, a sudden burst of a tyre resulted in the car going out of control near the Kaatu Badrakaliamman Temple.

In the impact, the vehicle hit the roadside median injuring all the occupants. On information, Thirumangalam police rushed to the spot and helped the injured reach the hospital.

However, two of them identified by the police as Bharatiraja and Saran died on the spot. While Ajit kumar escaped unhurt, four others - Mahaprabhu, Anand Padmanabhan, Raju and Baburaman were admitted to hospitals in Thirumangalam and Madurai.

A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
