Next month could mark the opening of two long-awaited public infrastructure projects being executed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

One of them is the high-level bridge across the Musi at Moosarambagh. Officials said work on one carriageway is nearing completion and is expected to be opened to traffic next month, partially restoring connectivity that was snapped after the old causeway was demolished last year. Construction on the remaining carriageway will continue even after traffic is allowed on the completed side.

The earlier causeway had worn down considerably due to repeated flooding of the Musi with steel reinforcement exposed at several locations, making it unsafe for public use. Although administrative sanction for the new bridge was accorded in 2022 as part of the proposed package of 14 Musi bridges, progress remained slow due to a change in government and a re-evaluation of the bridge projects. The old causeway was eventually pulled down after a structural assessment declared it unsafe for commuters.

While upstream bridge is still a work in progress, the downstream bridge, which connects Amberpet with Malakpet is 85-90% complete, and might be launched in August first week, officials say.

One more launch in the offing is that of the elevated corridor between Nalgonda Crossroads and Owaisi Hospital Junction, which is under construction at an expenditure of ₹620 crore, including land acquisition component.

Though sanctioned in 2018 for ₹523 crore before being revised to the current estimate last year, the 2.58 kilometre flyover has taken a long time for launch, despite its design incorporating steel components for faster completion.
