The Civil Supplies CID has arrested two employees of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) and a lorry driver for allegedly diverting and smuggling Public Distribution System (PDS) rice meant for ration card holders.
Acting on a tip-off, Civil Supplies CID officials intercepted a lorry near Perambur on Wednesday and found around 300 bags of PDS rice, weighing about 79 quintals, loaded in the vehicle. The rice and the lorry were seized.
During the investigation, the police found that the rice had allegedly been diverted with the involvement of TNCSC staff. The arrested persons were identified as Mukathu Ali, a TNCSC employee, Shiyam Murthi, another TNCSC staff member, and Senthil Murugan, the lorry driver.
