Two youngsters allegedly died due to suspected drug overdose at Khiala Kalan village and Mansa town in the district on Thursday night.

In the first incident, the deceased, Malkit Singh (24), was a bachelor engaged in farming. His uncle, Pargat Singh, alleged that a few individuals had taken Malkit from his house and later dropped him back, asking the family not to speak to him for two hours. When his father went to check on him, he was dead. Adding that youngsters had died due to drugs in the village in the past as well, Pargat demanded strict action against the individuals.

Meanwhile, another youngster, Harpreet Singh of Ward 21 in Mansa town, also allegedly died due to an overdose from a drug injection. His mother and wife demanded strict action against those responsible. They said Harpreet was a drug addict but had managed to overcome his addiction. His mother also raised questions over the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign.

Mansa DSP Harjinder Singh said the police were investigating both cases and medical reports of the deceased were awaited. He further said that one of the families had not yet recorded its statement.
