Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday reviewed the operation of the tertiary treatment reverse osmosis plant with a capacity to treat 45 million litres of sewage a day (mld) at Koyambedu.

Chennai Metrowater has established two TTRO plants in Koyambedu and Kodungaiyur, with a combined capacity to treat 90 mld of wastewater to implement circular water economy. The goal is to further purify second-treated sewage and supply to industries and reduce burden on freshwater sources.

Besides reducing groundwater extraction, the facilities have expanded use of recycled water in the construction sector, including ready-mix concrete plants, said a press release. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Additional Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department and Metrowater Managing Director T. Anand were present.
