Vijay's Jana Nayagan sees sold-out shows
Vijay's Jana Nayagan sees sold-out shows
The wait for Jana Nayagan is finally coming to an end, and the excitement around Vijay's much-awaited film is already showing at the box office. Advance bookings have opened in several cities across India, and many early shows are either filling up quickly or have already sold out. In some places, ticket prices have gone far beyond regular rates, with the highest-priced seats touching Rs 2,500.

The H. Vinoth directorial arrives in theatres on July 23 after a seven-month delay. The film has drawn extra attention because it is being promoted as Vijay's final movie before he fully shifts his focus to politics.

Bengaluru sees the highest ticket prices

Advance bookings are now live in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kerala and several other cities. In most locations, tickets for the Tamil version are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 800.

Bengaluru, however, has emerged as the costliest market for the film. Several premium shows are priced above Rs 1,000, while recliner seats at Cinepolis Nexus Shantiniketan have been listed at Rs 2,500, making them the highest-priced tickets for Jana Nayagan so far.

Despite the premium pricing, demand has remained strong. Several premiere shows priced between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 sold out soon after bookings opened. Early morning 6.30 am shows at some theatres have also reported full houses, with bookings still being rolled out across more screens.

Chennai keeps ticket prices under control

The situation is quite different in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, ticket prices have remained within the state's regulated limits, with the highest-priced ticket capped at Rs 190 and the lowest available at Rs 54.

Tamil Nadu has traditionally avoided steep price hikes and unrestricted premiere shows for major star releases because of safety concerns linked to fan celebrations.

The response from fans has still been massive. Chennai's Kamala Cinemas announced that it sold more than 10,000 tickets within minutes of bookings opening. Sharing the update on social media, the theatre wrote, "Bookings are on FIRE. 10,000+ Tickets sold for #Jananayagan at Kamala within minutes."

    Strong response overseas as well

The film has also generated huge interest outside India. Advance bookings in international markets had opened even before the official release date was announced.

According to UK distributor Ahimsa Entertainment, thousands of tickets were sold within one hour of the booking announcement, reflecting the strong demand for Vijay's final big-screen outing among overseas audiences.

Film delayed before getting CBFC clearance

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju. The supporting cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.

The film was originally scheduled for a Pongal release in January but was delayed because its certification process remained pending. It also faced an HD leak online before receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). After several modifications, including edits to certain scenes and muted dialogues, the film received an A certificate and is now set for release on July 23.
