Ahead of the match, both Didier Deschamps and Thomas Tuchel have claimed that they have no interest in playing it. Shearer lambasted the fixture on the Rest Is Football podcast, saying (via Metro):
The 2026 FIFA World Cup bronze medal match between England and France will be played on Saturday (July 18).
