England face Argentina in a thrilling 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final tie on Wednesday, and former Three Lions star Gary Lineker has expressed concern over Elliot Anderson.

The midfielder played the entirety of 120 minutes in their quarter-final win over Norway last night and turned in an assured display. But there's one aspect of his game that Lineker isn't convinced with.

Speaking on Rest is Football, the former Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur striker said (via Metro UK):

Further stating that it could come to bite against stronger opposition, Lineker added:

Following an electric game against Mexico, England were mostly lackluster in their clash with Norway, needing extra-time to see them off.

Andreas Schjelderup put the Nordic side in front after 36 minutes, though in-form Jude Bellingham restored parity for England in the second added minute of the half with a lovely run through the Norwegian defense.

He came back to haunt them again in extra-time, pouncing on a rebound after Morgan Rogers' shot came off Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland as England led once again in the 93rd minute.

Norway huffed and puffed in search of an equalizer but ultimately fell short as their dream run ended while Thomas Tuchel's side marched into the semi-finals, where a daunting clash with defending champions Argentina awaits.

England's World Cup dream faces its most stringent test yet as they come up against Lionel Messi's Argentina in the last-4 on Wednesday.

Although this will be their first meeting in 21 years, the two sides are no strangers to competing against each other on the biggest stage.

In fact, England and Argentina have contested five games at the FIFA World Cup, with the Three Lions winning thrice, including a 1-0 victory in their last encounter in 2002.

Thomas Tuchel's side may not be intimidated given Argentina's struggles in the knockout stages, but will have to perform much better than their display against Norway if they are to see off Lionel Messi and co.
