Switzerland and Colombia will battle for a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinals after their Round-of-16 match at BC Place in Vancouver on Tuesday headed into extra time.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in 90 minutes. This is the sixth match at the tournament to go into extra time, with three of the previous five decided by penalties.
Colombia has only featured in one penalty shootout in the FIFA World Cup. It was during the 2018 edition against England in the Round of 16.
The game ended 1-1, with Harry Kane and Yerry Mina finding the net before Colombia lost 4-3 in the penalty shootout after Mateus Uribe and Carlos Bacca missed from the spot.
