Soon after Spain won the FIFA World Cup 2026 after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, the players and their loved ones entered the ground to celebrate La Roja’s second triumph.
While some embraced their families, a few cried, but Spanish midfielder Pedri celebrated in a different fashion with his father, Fernando Gonzalez.
The duo went towards the goal. His father stood at the post as a goalkeeper while Pedri took position to take a penalty. His father saved his shot diving towards his right before the father-son duo once again hugged each other.

Story behind Pedri’s celebration with his father
In his younger days, Fernando had also dreamt of pursuing football and played till semi-professional level before family responsibilities made him leave the sport.
Now, each time Pedri wins a major trophy, he celebrates in a similar manner with his father. It has become a light-hearted family tradition.
