Jude Bellingham scored the equalising goal for England and Norway in their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal match in Miami on Saturday but the strike was clouded by controversy.
Several Norway players, including Erling Haaland, and its head coach Stale Solbakken were seen complaining to the match officials after the injury-time goal.
Reports on social media claimed that Orjan Nyland’s goal-kick hit a camera wire on its way to Elliot Anderson at the half-way line, who passed the ball to Anthony Gordon and allowed him to assist Bellingham.
The Norway players claimed that the goal-kick only ended up with Anderson due to a deflection off the camera cable.
However, FIFA conducted a check for the same and put a statement saying, “Before England’s goal in minute 45+2 against Norway, the sensor in the connected ball showed no peak in the ‘heartbeat of the ball’ when in the air, and therefore no evidence that the ball touched the overhead wire and changed the movement of the ball.”
England had the rub of the green in the second half too after Torbjorn Heggem’s 55th-minute goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up by Haaland.
