The two mercurial forwards have faced each other only twice before today and both have been for their club sides rather than the national team.
The most recent meeting came in semifinal of the 2018/19 season. Salah featured against the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner in the first leg of the semifinal which Barcelona won 3-0.
Liverpool famously came back to score four at Anfield to overturn the aggregate score and progress to the final. The Merseyside club went on to beat Tottenham Hostpur 2-0 and lift the trophy.
