Didier Deschamps ended his tenure as France head coach with a tame 0-2 reverse at the hands of Spain in the FIFA World Cup semifinals in Dallas on Tuesday.
The 57-year-old had confirmed before this World Cup that he will be stepping down from the role, having taken over in 2012 and leading the side to the crown in 2018.
The loss on Tuesday was just the third at the World Cup for Deschamps. The last time he lost a game was during the 2022 World Cup, where France lost 0-1 to Tunisia during the group stage. The only other time he lost a game was in the quarterfinals of the 2014 edition, with France losing 0-1 to Germany.
France lost the final of that edition to Argentina but it goes down as a draw in records since the defeat came only after a penalty shootout.
Deschamps managed 26 games at the World Cup with France, and ended up winning 20 and drawing three.
