Defending champion Argentina is under serious threat of being knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after falling 2-0 behind Egypt in its round-of-16 match in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Mostafa Ziko finished off a sweeping counter-attacking move in the 67th minute to extend the Pharaohs’ lead after Yasser Ibrahim’s header had put them ahead in the first half.

The 29-year-old forward had found the net in the 58th minute, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for an earlier foul on Lisandro Martinez at the other end of the pitch.

Ziko was born in Alexandria and came through the ranks at Egyptian club Gomhoriat Shebin. He currently plays for Pyramids FC, which he joined in 2025 from ZED FC.

The left-winger made his international debut in a friendly against Russia just ahead of the tournament. In only seven appearances for the national team, he has already scored four goals.
