Switzerland and Colombia are set to meet in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 at BC Plave, Vancouver, on Tuesday.
Switzerland has qualified for this stage following a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria in the previous round, with goals from Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye.
Colombia made to the Round of 16 following a resolute 1-0 victory over Ghana. A fourteenth-minute goal from midfielder Jhon Arias was enough for its passage.
The Switzerland vs Colombia FIFA World Cup 2026 match will be officiated by Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton.
Barton has been a referee since 2017. Despite being one of the younger referees at the tournament, this is the 35-year-old’s second World Cup, having taken charge of three fixtures in the 2022 edition.
In the tournament so far, Barton has officiated two group games. Notably, he became the first referee to implement the new confrontational mouth-covering rule, sending off Miguel Almiron for Paraguay in the side’s first group game.
In his career, Barton has taken charge of 279 matches across all competitions, issuing 1437 yellow cards (5.15 per game) and 132 red cards (0.47 per game).
Since his debut, he has been a regular official in the El Salvador top division since 2018. He has also taken charge of the CONCACAF Champions Cup final in 2022 and 2023.
