Defending world champion Argentina will look to continue its pursuit of consecutive titles as it takes on Egypt in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Argentina fought off Cape Verde in extra time to win its round of 32 match 3-2, while Egypt pipped Australia 4-2 on penalties to enter the round of 16 for the first time since 1938.
French referee Francois Letexier will be in charge of the round of 16 match between Argentina and Egypt in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The 37-year-old is a regular in Ligue 1 and adjudicated 18 games in the French top flight this year. He also officiated games in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Saudi Pro League and UAE Pro League.
This will be Letexier’s third appearance in the World Cup after the group stage games, Ivory Coast vs Ecuador and Cape Verde vs Saudi Arabia. He had earlier been part of the matches during the World Cup qualification campaign, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Euro.
Letexier was the referee in the Euro 2024 final.
