Switzerland defeated Colombia 4-3 on penalties in Vancouver on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
This is the European nation’s first appearance in the last eight in 72 years.
Davinson Sanchez and Juan Hernandez missed from the spot in the shootout to bring a tame end to Colombia’s hopes of reaching the last eight for the second time.
Switzerland will now take on defending champion Argentina in Kansas on July 11.
