More than 60,000 Argentina fans have petitioned the world football body FIFA to replay the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain.
La Albiceleste suffered an excruciating 1-0 loss at the hands of Luis de la Fuente’s side in the summit clash, with Ferran Torres scoring the winner in the second half of extra time.
The loss ended Argentina’s hopes of becoming the first nation to win back-to-back World Cups since 1962. The loss was more painful for their faithful considering it might have been star player Lionel Messi’s last ever World Cup game for the team.
One fan, identified by reports as Gisela Sanchez, has created an online petition to replay the final, believing Lionel Scaloni’s team was robbed of the win in the summit clash due to poor refereeing decisions.
Sanchez’s petition text states that a few decisions from referee Slavko Vincic turned the game the other way. These petitions are however not legally binding and will not be acted upon by the world body.
Alternatively, another petition has been going viral asking FIFA to ban Argentina from all future international competitions, and it almost broke the Guiness World Record for the petition with most signatures.
