Ismael Saibari was not named in the starting line-up for Morocco’s FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal against France in Boston on Thursday.
The striker had scored in all three group matches as the Atlas Lions finished second in Group C behind Brazil.
The Bayern Munich forward was then taken off midway through the round of 16 encounter against Canada which the team won 3-0.
The 25-year-old forward went down after what seemed a muscle injury in the 21st minute and had to eventually be replaced by Soufiane Rahimi.
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi confirmed that the striker will not return for the game against France but was hopeful he will be fit for the final two rounds should the side progress.
“He’s not ready but I hope it’s not the end of the tournament for him,” Ouahbi told a press conference.
