The second quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off when Spain locked horns with Belgium at the Los Angeles Stadium on Friday.

Before kick-off, the players of both teams bunched together shoulder to shoulder around the halfway circle, maintaining a minute’s silence.

The gesture was to pay respects to the people who lost their lives during the recent wildfire in Spain’s Almeria

Twelve people were killed while 23 were reported missing during what was reported as the ‘most devastating fire’ seen in that region.
