Spain will take on Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, New York on Sunday.

Argentina is the defending champion, while Spain is the reigning European champion.

The game is set for an afternoon kick off at 2 PM local time. However, there are suggestions that the game could be delayed by a few hours due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, which is making hazy conditions across the country.

On Saturday, Spain’s training session was suspended because of storms and lighting in the area. The players moved indoors for warm-up session. There was no immediate indication if the team would try to get back outside for a full session. Argentina’s training session was also eventually cancelled, with New York experiencing persistant rain since morning on Saturday.

But the rain isn’t set to provide respite, according to Mark Parrington, senior scientist at the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service.

“It looks like there is another smoky air mass following in behind that system, but it’s not clear right now how much or how it might reach New York or New Jersey, when it comes to actually Sunday. If the fire intensity really picks up again through (Saturday), it’s possible it puts more smoke into the atmosphere that then might quickly follow that rain event,” said Parrington.

The air quality has already led to an Major League Soccer game in Chicago on Thursday to be postponed, while an Major League Baseball game in Philadelphia was moved up an hour.
