The Tamilnadu Chicken Traders Federation (TCTF), Thanjavur, has sought the suspension of ‘no meat day’ closures and ensure the business on all days.

In a resolution passed at the TCTF’s Executive Committee meeting in Thanjavur on July 11, the Federation pleaded for scrapping the practice of declaring ‘no meat days’ by the Government (hitherto meat sales was not carried by the meat traders on government-mandated closures of meat shops – including frozen/ultra-processed raw meat through departmental stores, on Mahaveer Jayanthi, Vallalar Jayanthi, and Thiruvalluvar Day) so that chicken sales could be carried out on all days.

It sought permission for setting up poultry rendering plants in all districts to ensure conversion of poultry waste (offal, feathers, heads, feet and blood) into valuable and sterile byproducts to ensure clean living environment.

In another resolution, the federation thanked the broiler companies for assuring that feeding of chickens would be stopped well before 15 hours from the stipulated time for weighing of chickens for sale at the poultry farm gates.

The EC meeting was presided by federation president B. Durairaj and coordinated by secretary M. Sundaralingam and treasurer S. John Kennady in Thanjavur.
