WWE is set to host The Biggest Party of the Summer in Minneapolis, and one veteran gave a possible reason why management has dropped the ball on the two-time World Heavyweight Champion in the Stamford-based promotion.
Similar to the old regime, Triple H's creative regime has pivoted from storylines or superstars who were destined to rule the division. Gunther had an incredible year as he retired two superstars and captured the World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso. However, The Ring General's dominance slowly faded this year when he was moved to Friday Night SmackDown.
Speaking on Behind The Turnbuckle Studios' 2 Count Tuesday, Jonathan Coachman stated that with the company's current booking, Gunther has become an afterthought on WWE's main roster. Coachman previously stated he found The Ring General unentertaining as a performer.
The veteran went on to say that the company may have noticed that the two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion's wrestling style didn't translate well in 2026, which might be the reason the company dropped the ball on him.
Gunther started the year strong when he retired AJ Styles in Saudi Arabia at WWE Royal Rumble 2026. However, it took a turn for the worse as The Ring General was added to WrestleMania 42 at the last minute against Seth Rollins.
According to Self Made Sessions, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion was scheduled to work with Roman Reigns in late spring or early summer and ultimately face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, those plans were changed, and Gunther might lock horns with Nick Aldis at the event.
