WWE's plans for one of its biggest premium live events of the year have reportedly undergone a major change, with fans still waiting for an official announcement regarding Survivor Series 2026. The company is expected to reveal the event's host city before SummerSlam, but backstage plans have reportedly shifted in recent months.
According to WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, WWE seriously explored holding Survivor Series 2026 outside the United States. The report stated that, at one point in late 2025, the promotion was considering an international destination for the annual PLE.
However, those plans have reportedly fallen through in recent months. While no specific international location was identified, one source indicated that the change in direction is believed to be the main reason the promotion has not yet announced the date and venue for Survivor Series 2026.
The report also noted that Boston, Massachusetts, made a strong bid to host the event after the international plans stalled. Negotiations between WWE and the city reportedly progressed, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement because of financial issues.
It was also noted that this was similar to WWE's earlier discussions with Boston over hosting John Cena's final match, with the city also reportedly falling short during those negotiations due to financial considerations. The show was eventually scheduled for Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Fans will not have to wait much longer for concrete details, as an official announcement of the date and location is expected before SummerSlam takes place at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 1 and 2.
The Stamford-based promotion has heavily prioritized site fees from local governments and tourism boards when booking shows. This financial strategy means the promotion is willing to delay announcements to secure the most profitable deal possible. The company successfully executed this with international events this year, including Clash in Italy in Turin.
AJ Styles believes WWE has a unique opportunity to reinvent Survivor Series.
After the sports entertainment juggernaut took AAA under its wing and partnered with TNA, talent from other rosters have continued to appear on WWE programming.
While speaking on his Phenomenally Retro podcast, Styles suggested expanding the traditional brand vs. brand format by bringing together stars from across WWE and its growing list of partner promotions.
Styles also reflected on the 2019 edition of Survivor Series, which featured NXT alongside RAW and SmackDown.
It now remains to be seen where the Survivor Series will take place this year.
