R Ashwin feels Vaibhav Suryavanshi deserved to be part of India's T20I squad for the Ireland and England tour. However, he argued that the team management should not have fast-tracked his debut based on social media pressure.

The 15-year-old made his T20I debut in the second T20I of the recently concluded five-match series against England. He registered scores of 14, 13, and 15 before being left out of the playing XI for the fifth fixture.

Ashwin suggested that the tours should have been like an 'internship' for the teenage batting sensation, where he could have learnt how to adapt to different conditions. The Indian spin legend stated on his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat:

Giving his own example, Ashwin mentioned that even he was benched on an England tour despite being in wonderful form. He called the team management a temple where the outside noise cannot influence decisions. He remarked:

The Shreyas Iyer-led side endured a tough campaign against England. While the first game ended in a no result due to rain, the hosts won four consecutive games to clinch their maiden bilateral T20I series win against India.

R Ashwin underlined that the team management's real challenge comes during losses. He pointed out how India kept on making changes to their side instead of backing the same individuals.

He elaborated in the same video:

India and England will now lock horns in a three-match ODI series, beginning Tuesday, July 14, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
