Two youngsters working as labourers at the local fruit market were allegedly tied to a pole and beaten by some shopkeepers and later by two women working as private security guards at the market on Wednesday morning.

    The incident was captured on cameras, and videos of the alleged assault later went viral on social media.

    According to sources, the two youngsters had allegedly attempted to steal fruits packed in crates. Following this, some shopkeepers caught them and reportedly assaulted them. They were later handed over to the police.

    ASI Amritpal Singh said that the police had received a written request from a fruit seller stating that he did not want any action to be taken against the two youngsters.

    “We have received a written request from a fruit seller that he does not want any action against the two youngsters. What can we do now?” the ASI said.
