A minor error by a car driver late on Sunday night nearly led to a major accident on VIP Road when he started his vehicle while it was still in gear.
The taxi suddenly lurched forward from a parking area, crashed into an interior design shop located in the basement and rammed into its shutter, causing considerable damage.
Although the incident occurred on Sunday night, residents and visitors continued to gather at the spot throughout Monday, looking on with curiosity and disbelief.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap, but the shop sustained significant damage.
According to information, Arjun, an eatery stall owner on VIP Road, was attempting to start his car, which had been left in gear. As soon as he turned the ignition on, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. Unable to regain control, he crashed into the basement premises of Jindal Interiors.
Hearing the loud crash, nearby residents and passersby rushed to the scene.
The shop owner, who arrived on Monday morning after being informed about the incident, found the shutter damaged and furniture and other items inside the showroom broken.
Locals said a major tragedy was averted as the accident occurred late at night when the shop was closed. Had it happened during business hours, when customers and staff were present, it could have resulted in injuries.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
Around a month ago, a woman accidentally drove her car into a garments showroom in Baltana after failing to stop in the parking area. The vehicle smashed through the glass entrance and came to a halt near the cash counter, causing panic among staff and customers.
